Jill Marquardt

Jill spent the first 18 years of her life on the frosty plains of South Dakota, an experience that gave her an appreciation of tropical locations like Senegal as well as the slight trace of a “Fargo” accent.

She started out in the professional world with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. This led to several years in Denver as a writer, marketer and public relations specialist for companies in a host of industries – technology, energy, financial services, non-profits. From driving reporters through rural Nebraska to tour an award-winning call center to helping supervise a live and very large goose during a photo shoot, every day brought its own unique adventure.

During this time, Jill’s interests in international business and entrepreneur and small business issues led her back to the classroom for a certificate in international trade through the World Trade Center Denver and an MBA from the University of Denver, keeping a foot in the business world with projects for the CTEK Angels group, the Small Business Growth Center incubator and the Russian-American Chamber of Commerce.

Upon graduation, the challenge was to combine all the above interests. 2003 has been a great year – beginning with six months developing marketing programs for small manufacturing companies in Costa Rica, and now – repacking the sun screen – the GeekCorps telecenter project in Senegal.
