After receiving a MS in Meteorology from Humboldt University in Berlin, Jens started his professional career as a scientist for the German Weather Service. Because of his interest in living abroad (and also a lack of funding for his research project), he accepted a position as software engineer for Radian, a remote sensing device company in Boulder, Colorado.

Jens finally parted ways with research in 1997, when he moved to New York, where he has been working on several IT and e-commerce projects for financial institutions such as UBS Warburg, NASDAQ, and Merrill Lynch. He also designed, and implemented e-commerce solutions for Firmenich an internationally renowned producer of fragrances and flavors, located in Princeton, NJ and Geneva, Switzerland.

Although he spends most of his time in front of a computer, Jens also enjoys non-geeky activities such as playing volleyball, reading books, rock climbing, or cooking. Growing up in East Germany not only provided him with a decent and free university education, but also taught him how to fix things around his 130 year-old house in Brooklyn, NY.
