John McNamara is from the North West of Ireland, a wild, windy and sometimes very beautiful place called Donegal. After graduation from Dublin City University in 1996, John accepted a
graduate engineering opportunity with Claremont Technologies in
Montreal, Canada.
Nortel Networks brought him back to Galway, Ireland, where he worked as a Senior Engineer architecting Call Centre Applications for the next two years. "Canada was my first foreign experience it created a desire inside me to see more of the world. When I came back to Ireland, I decided to build up some more experience and then use IT as a way of working and travelling."
For the next 3 years John has been widening his breadth of experience and engineering knowledge whilst working and travelling through Western Europe, South East Asia and Australia.
John feels the chance to be a part of Geekcorps is a wonderful
opportunity to contribute in to the development of the technology sector in Ghana, whilst realising the dream of living and working in Africa and learning from and about the culture and its people.
