Since Laura learned to speak in full sentences at the age of one, she’s been incurably inquisitive about the world around her. This curiosity led her to West Africa five years ago, and she has dreamed of returning ever since. Originally earmarked for the DFI project in Senegal, fate has returned her to Mali where she will be working on the Geekcorps Mali project.

Graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Foreign Affairs and French, Laura then hitchhiked all over Europe and found herself in some interesting situations, like witnessing a shooting in Toulouse’s train station, arriving in Belfast at the beginning of Marching Season (whoops), and constructing teepees on a villa in Tuscany. With 3 months of travel under her belt, she returned to the United States to start a job with a project and contract management training and consulting company in the DC metropolitan area. Following her work to build the operations of the then-new European offices, Laura transferred to the e-learning department, where her position as jack-of-all-trades led her to everything from writing and designing courses, to providing front-line technical support and working to create a new e-learning platform. Rewarded for her efforts, she moved into a management position where she worked closely with business development to bolster e-product sales. Her responsibilities included developing business plans, operational processes, and marketing plans for new e-products. She also consulted with client organizations, such as HP, BP, Freddie Mac, Cisco Systems, Department of Veterans Affairs and many more, to help them improve their project management performance.

For fun, Laura enjoys traveling, working out, hiking, deciphering nerdy Mensa puzzles, teaching English as a Second Language, and getting into trouble with her two younger brothers.
